The magic of the gnomes

In the Silver Lake over Canazei many assumed that a big treasure was hidden. So the king set out with Dolasila and his entourage to the lake. Once there, a soldier discovered in a dark cave valuable jewels and a silver chest filled with a white coat and gray powder. Suddenly out of the cave came three dwarfs, who begged the king not to steal the treasure. Dolasila took pity and returned the jewels to the dwarfs. Subsequently, the dwarves asked Dolasila to scatter the gray powder in the lake and thus to free them from the spell of the cave. In thanks, the dwarves gave the beauty a white coat to build armor out of it. "So you become an invincible warrior," they said, "but be careful: if the armor turns red, like the sunset on the Dolomites, do not go into battle.
